Farewell visit of His Excellency the Ambassador to the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Saadi, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria accredited to Zambia today paid a courtesy call on Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to bid farewell on completion of his tour of duty.
During the meeting, Hon. Haimbe expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for his efforts towards the consolidation of relations between Zambia and Algeria. The Minister acknowledged the Ambassador’s commitment to reviving the scholarship programme that had contributed to increasing capacity in various fields critical to Zambia’s development. The Minister echoed President Hakainde Hichilema’s message of peace and stability as a prerequisite for development, as well as the need for an economic approach towards addressing challenges at national and continental levels. The Minister also congratulated Algeria for its election in June 2023 to the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member. Additionally, the Minister reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening relations and cooperation with Algeria both at bilateral and multilateral levels.
For his part, the Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Zambian Government for the reopening of the Algerian Embassy in Lusaka. The Ambassador also highlighted the strides made in the renewing of the scholarship programme in Zambia. He further noted the visit to Algeria by Rt. Hon. Mrs. Nelly Mutti, SC, M.P, Speaker of the National Assembly, in May 2023. The Ambassador assured the Minister that his successor would continue to build on the foundation set to further enhance the existing cordial relations between Zambia and Algeria.
