President of the Republic’s message on International Women's Day

ALGIERS-The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, sent a message on Thursday to mark International Women's Day (March 8th), translated by APS:

"In the name of Allah, Clement and Merciful,

May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon His Messenger,

The Algerian woman celebrates her international day (March 08th), consolidating her role in society through her strong will and constant loyalty to Algeria, climbing the ladder in several professions and positions to prove her ability to take on missions with merit.

March 8th has always been an opportunity to applaud the pioneering role played by women in several sectors, and their remarkable contribution to sustainable development, by occupying significant proportions of jobs in the Education, Teaching, Justice and Healthcare sectors, and through her brilliantly successful integration into other fields, such as the constituted bodies, where it has shown great achievements that make us so proud of our sisters and daughters who have demonstrated, on every occasion, that they are the worthy heirs of Algeria's shahidates (women martyrs) ... worthy successors to her +Djamilate+: Djamila Boupacha... Djamila Bouhired... Djamila Bouazza and others who etched their names in gold letters in the memorable record of Algerian women's struggle, such as Zohra Drif Bitat, Louisette Ighil Ahriz, and all the brave heroines who took part, alongside the revolutionaries, in historical epics, so that their memories remain engraved forever in our minds.

These women were role models for so many others who lived through a dark period, that of the national tragedy, and who faced up to barbaric terrorism with exemplary bravery. Women doctors, teachers, and journalists, who by their sacrifices overcame the forces of evil and darkness to ensure that Algeria remained as the shouhada wanted it to be, advancing with sure steps along the path mapped out by the principles of the November 1st Declaration.

It is not surprising to see Algerian women taking a leading role, occupying high positions and earning the respect and recognition of Algerians for their contribution.

The new Algeria we are building with a strong and sincere willingness would not be possible without women, enjoying their full rights, in dignity and respect, proud of their nationalism and citizenship.

We are proud of her deep attachment to the traditions of the Nation, of her ability to follow and grasp the demands of the times, marked by a flow of knowledge and technical and technological progress, of her talent and know-how in various scientific, cultural and sporting fields, and in the fields of socio-economic activity, as well as on the scene of associative action to anchor the true notion of a civil society that frames youth and influences public life. We affirm that the real parity we seek to enshrine is not a favor or a reward, but a constitutional achievement that must be embodied clearly and on a large scale in our society.

There can be no compromise with any infringement of this principle by an institution, administration or official holding decision-making power that would minimize the aptitude, competence and capacity of Algerian women, and deprive them of a right which is theirs under their proven qualifications to occupy a position or responsibility, however important.

Our sisters and daughters celebrating this occasion today are an expressive extension of the struggle and honorable combat of Algerian women since ancient times and during the Glorious Liberation Revolution. They are also bearers of hope for the new Algeria they are helping to build in the countryside and villages, where rural women remain a symbol of sacrifice and honorable work, as well as in the cities and major metropolises, where women exercise complex and specialized professions, taking a well-deserved place in all positions, missions and responsibilities.

I extend my warmest congratulations to them all while acknowledging their unfailing dedication to fulfilling the weighty mission of educating the builders of today's and tomorrow's Algeria, anchoring the values of friendship and fraternity, and strengthening the sense of national belonging and pride in the Algerian identity.

I wish them all health and happiness in the bosom of Algeria, land of pride, glory and greatness.

Long live Algeria, Glory to our martyrs.

May Allah's peace and blessings surround you.
